100 MILE DIET POD

The 100 Mile Pod is a committee of activists, lead by RFFP Board Chair Cheryl Nechamen, who work to raise awareness of the benefits of eating local foods in the Capital District. You can learn more about their work at www.100milechallenge.com.

In September of 2006 and 2007 they promoted the "100 Mile Diet Challenge."

On Tuesday, February 12, 2008, they presented "Eat Local Fair: Meet you Farmer" at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY. There was a steady stream of people stopping at the tables to talk to the farmers. 10 CSA farms, 7 livestock farms, and 6 community groups participated, including:

  • CSAs: The Alleged Farm, Community Supported Garden at St. Joseph's Center, Denison Farm, Eight Mile Creek Farm, Fox Creek Farm, Homestead Farms, Otter Hook Farms, Red Oak Farm of Stuyvesant, Serendipity Farms, Stoneledge Farm
  • Livestock farms: Crooked Creek Boer Goats, Fox Hill Farm, Frog Hollow Farm, Grazin' Angus Acres, Heather Ridge Farm, Mack Brook Farm, Nagimor Farm
  • Other groups: Albany County Agricultural & Farmland Protection Board, Capital District Community Gardens, Honest Weight Food Co-op, Hudson Mohawk RC&D Council, RFFP, Roots & Wisdom, Wild Hive Farm Bakery
