Holistic Management: A Decision-Making Process for Greater Sustainability

(Nov. 3-4 , 2004) We have scheduled a repeat performance of what was a truly significant course for those who took part in it last December. Holistic Management has been explained as a decision making process that enables users to move toward sustainability. RFFP has offered these courses since 1996. We have seen this approach greatly enhance the well-being and success of farmers and others who practice it. It helps people ease into to a new paradigm that serves them better.

For example, Keith Morgan-Davie, a farmer in last year's Holistic Management workshop, joked with his wife afterwards, "Holistic Management is cheaper than divorce." He found that, in just a couple days, he had acquired the tools – and awareness -- needed to maintain the balance between the demands of the farm and family. He and his wife took the class together, as is recommended.

This year's Holistic Management workshop is scheduled for Wed. and Thurs., Nov. 3 and 4, immediately following Election Day. It will be held within an hour of Albany, NY.

Last year's highly praised instructor Seth Wilner will return to teach this class. Seth is a certified Holistic Management educator employed as a University of New Hampshire extension educator.

Class participants will articulate a clear integrated goal of their own which encompasses their personal values, their economic needs, and respects ecological principles. Or expressed otherwise, they will develop a holistic goal that describes the quality of life, forms of production, and future resource base which they and their family or partners desire.

At this workshop, you will also learn and practice using the Holistic Management testing questions to make sound decisions. Participants will also gain an understanding of the Holistic Management financial planning process. The class will be facilitated in a manner that encourages a supportive group spirit that will serve participants during the workshop and into the future.
